Whangamata Beach Hop

Every year tens of thousands of visitors flock to the beautiful beach town of Whangamata on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand for the annual Whangamata Beach Hop.

What is the Whangamata Beach Hop?

The Whangamata Beach Hop is one of New Zealand’s biggest summer festivals. It is a 5 day celebration of the legendary 50’s & 60’s.

The first Whangamata Beach Hop was held in 2001 as part of the local Rock’n’Roll Club’s (Coastal Rockers) birthday. About 6,000 people attended and over $3,000 was raised. In 2002 the Whangamata Beach Hop got even bigger. Rock’n’Roll clubs, Bands, Hot Rods, Classic Cars and Motorcycles from around the country showed up to celebrate in style. And since then it has gone from strength to strength.

Over 100,000 people attend the Whangamata Beach Hop now with over 1,500+ cars registered every year.
